RED VELVET CAKE




CREAMED MIX
Cream:
1/2 c Shortening and
1-1/2 c Sugar
until Light Fluffy

Add
2 Eggs
(beating well after each)

Beat in:
1 oz Red Food Coloring
3 tsp White Vinegar
1 tsp Butter Flavoring and
1 tsp Vanilla Extract



Combine:
2-1/2 c Cake Flour
1/4 c Baking Cocoa
1 tsp Baking Soda and
1 tsp Salt
Add to CREAMED MIX
alternately with:
(1 c) Buttermilk
(beating well after each addition)



Pour into 2 Greased and Floured
9" Round Baking Pans
Bake at 350 F for 25 minutes
(until a toothpick comes out clean)
Cool for 10 minutes before
removing from pans
to wire racks to cool completely




Combine:
12 oz Cream Cheese (softened)
3/4 c Butter (softened)
5-2/3 c Confectioners Sugar
4-1/2 TSP Vanilla Extract

Beat until Smooth and Creamy
Spread between Layers and
over Top and Sides of Cake
